To sleep better you’ll need a routine for your body clock. Try to get to bed at the same time every day of the week. If you missed your set time for bed, don’t try to make up for lost sleep by staying in bed for an extra hour in the morning as this can easily reset your body clock and make it hard to sleep.
Exercising for 20-30 mins a day can help you sleep. It’s best to do this in the morning or afternoon (if you have the time). Exercise stimulates the body so doing this before bedtime may make it harder to sleep.
Also smoking will make sleeping that little bit harder as Nicotine acts as a stimulant aswell
Don’t go to bed hungry. Eat a light snack, not a heavy meal. I suggest warm milk and chocolate chip cookie. Mmmm…..
Having a tv and pc in the bedroom doesn’t help so I probably lose a good few hours of sleep every week to them, so I guess my tip is to keep distractions like that out of the room
Make sure you’re at the right temperature before you go to bed, not too cold and not too hot. This can stop you from sleeping if the temperature isn’t right.
No naps in the day, this will throw your body clock off course and make it even harder to sleep at night
Hiding the clock may help aswell. Focusing on the time can make you feel stressed or anxious, not good when you’re trying to sleep.
I know this may be obvious but… Stay off caffeinated beverages before bed time as it will keep you awake. Also try not to drink alcohol before bed even though it acts as a sedative it may mess your sleeping pattern around.
How about this for a tip. If you can’t sleep, get up and eat some turkey! Turkey contains tryptophan which is a major building block for making serotonin, a neurotransmitter, which sends messages between nerve cells and causes feelings of sleepiness. Though this only works if you eat it on an empty stomach with no protein present.
Lol nice one Topman, that’s so………odd. Thanks for the great tip!
I find opening the curtains as soon as I wake up or walk in the garden helps keep my sleeping pattern in order as this activates the body’s natural body clock.
