I find opening the curtains as soon as I wake up or walk in the garden helps keep my sleeping pattern in order as this activates the body’s natural body clock.

How about this for a tip. If you can't sleep, get up and eat some turkey! Turkey contains tryptophan which is a major building block for making serotonin, a neurotransmitter, which sends messages between nerve cells and causes feelings of sleepiness. Though this only works if you eat it on an empty stomach with no protein present.

I know this may be obvious but... Stay off caffeinated beverages before bed time as it will keep you awake. Also try not to drink alcohol before bed even though it acts as a sedative it may mess your sleeping pattern around.

Hiding the clock may help aswell. Focusing on the time can make you feel stressed or anxious, not good when you're trying to sleep.

No naps in the day, this will throw your body clock off course and make it even harder to sleep at night

Make sure you're at the right temperature before you go to bed, not too cold and not too hot. This can stop you from sleeping if the temperature isn't right.

Having a tv and pc in the bedroom doesn't help so I probably lose a good few hours of sleep every week to them, so I guess my tip is to keep distractions like that out of the room

Don't go to bed hungry. Eat a light snack, not a heavy meal. I suggest warm milk and chocolate chip cookie. Mmmm.....
