When performing a search with Vista’s instant search feature, you can save the search in a special folder. This feature allows you to create a virtual folder which, by default, is saved in your \\Searches\ folder. Every time you open such a folder, the search results are updated.

You can add additional clocks to the system tray. Click the clock, and then click Date and Time Settings. Click the Additional Clocks tab, you can add one or two additional clocks to the tray and select their time zones.

Best tip ever: either switch to a mac or switch back to XP.

If you hate the look of Aero, click Start/Control Panel/Themes and you can choose a non-Aero theme, such as Windows Classic.

Windows Vista desktop is far more customizable than in previous versions. You can view the desktop icons in three different styles now, including Extra Large Icons, which is particularly handy if you have a hi-res display.

Some Windows Vista keyboard shortcuts:

+ G = cycles through the Gadgets
+ L = locks the computer
+ U = activates the Ease Of Use Center
+ X = cycles through the Mobility Center
+ Spacebar = moves the focus to the Sidebar
+ Pause = opens the System Properties portion of Control Panel)
CTRL + + Tab = opens persistent Flip 3D

It is possible to insert a USB flash drive or a flash memory card to serve as an additional memory cache. This feature is called ‘Readyboost’.

You can get a 1gb+ flash drive pretty cheap these days, so it’s a low cost and easy way to improve the performance of your pc without having to go under the hood.
